2007 Ag Partners Hay Relief Program
Donor Information Sheet

••NC cattle farmers are currently experiencing a shortage of hay and forage products to feed to      their cattle as a result of dry weather, a late freeze, and above average temperatures.
•• NCDA & CS has taken several initiatives to help alleviate the problem, including:

Creation of a Hay Alert Hotline and Website

Five partner regional demonstration days to introduce farmers to alternative forages
Development of the Drought Resource Information Page
A campaign to recruit truckers to provide backhauling services to help farmers in NC
The transport of “sample” alternative forages to demonstrations for distribution to farmers
Initiated discussions with other state and federal agencies, commodity groups and
other agricultural organizations to address the hay shortage

In addition, the NCDA & CS has established, through the Ag Foundation at North Carolina State University, the 2007 Ag Partners Hay Relief Program to help offset farmers’ costs associated with transportation of hay from out of state.

How the program works:

  1. Businesses or private citizens can donate monies in any amount that will be placed in the 2007 Ag Partners Hay Relief Program to reimburse farmers on a first come/first serve basis. Farmers will be reimbursed for the cost of transportation of hay from out of state at a rate of $.50/mile until all funds are exhausted. The Ag Foundation has informed us that all contributions to the Program are tax deductible.
  2. Additional eligibility details are located within the Ag Partners Hay Relief Program Description.
